Oberthur Technologies announced that its Cotia-based Brazil manufacturing plant has received the Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) certification from the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) following an extensive third-party audit. Oberthur Technologies is the first smart card manufacturer in South America to satisfy the scheme's requirements for smartcard production.
GSMA’s SAS is a voluntary scheme through which suppliers subject their production sites and processes to a comprehensive security audit. The scope of the audit, developed in collaboration with world-class security auditing companies, includes embedding and value-added fulfillment of card form factor for GSM smartcard products, data generation for GSM personalisation and assessment of the security management system. The audit enables mobile operators to effectively assess a supplier’s security standards.
“As the only smart card manufacturer in all of South America with this designation, the certification assures our customers that Oberthur Technologies can provide solutions that follow a strict set of standardised security criteria,” said Orlando Berne, LATAM Operations Director of Oberthur Technologies. “The certification represents Oberthur Technologies ongoing focus to understand and to meet the critical security needs of mobile operators.”

The plant is also ISO9001 and ISO14001 accredited and has been certified by Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Three other Oberthur Technologies’ manufacturing sites carry the SAS security certification: Shenzhen in China, Vitré in France and Noida in India.
